Move the Rock: The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything

Jul 28, 2025

Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right… but still not getting the results you want? You’re tracking your food, showing up to appointments, trying to move your body more , and yet, something just feels off.  Your progress is slower than expected. Your motivation is dipping. Your frustration is building.

If this sounds familiar, you might not be failing. You might just have a rock in your path.

What’s “the rock”?

Motivational speaker Eddie Pinero tells the story of a friend who desperately wanted to get fit but couldn’t find time to go to the gym. He was looking after his child full-time and simply couldn’t make it work.

Then one day, he found a gym with a crèche.

Problem solved.

Suddenly, his whole routine shifted. He started training consistently, he felt better, he made progress, and all that had changed was… the rock was moved.

The rock wasn’t laziness or lack of motivationit was a practical obstacle. One that had a solution, once he looked at the problem a little differently.

What’s your rock?

Maybe your rock is feeling too tired to cook dinner after work.

Maybe it’s not knowing what to eat now that your appetite has changed after surgery or since starting GLP-1s.

Maybe it’s guilt about taking time for yourself, or confusion about what kind of movement is “okay” now, or shame about needing support.

Rocks come in all shapes and sizes, but they all do the same thing: they block the path.

If you’re trying to push forward without identifying what’s actually in your way, you’ll just feel stuck, tired, frustrated and discouraged.

The mindset shift

Here’s the powerful shift: instead of asking, “Why can’t I do this?” ask, “What’s the rock in my way, and how can I move it?”

This one question changes everything.

  • If you’re always too tired in the evenings, maybe your rock is timing. Could a short walk in the morning work better than trying to squeeze in something after dinner?

  • If you’re skipping meals or overeating at night, maybe your rock is a lack of structure. Could a few simple, ready-to-go meals help?

  • If your mental health is struggling and motivation is low, maybe your rock is emotional, not physical. Could reaching out for support (we can help with that!) or setting smaller, more compassionate goals shift your experience?

This is not just about willpower

You don’t have to work harder, you just need to get curious.

Success on this journeywhether you're post-surgery, on GLP-1s, or navigating lifestyle changesis not about perfection. It’s about problem-solving. It’s about finding the real roadblock and making a tweak, a pivot, or a change that clears the path.

Sometimes that shift is small, sometimes it’s structural, sometimes it’s emotional ... but it always starts with the question: What’s my rock, and how can I move it?
