You MUST Use These To Improve Your Results
Apr 26, 2023Weight Loss Surgery is a powerful tool to help you create health and lifestyle change but it doesn't work in isolation. You already know that you have to do the work too. It's not always easy to create and maintain change however, so how do we go about doing this, especially further down the track when your results might start to slow?
Actually one solution is very simple and although it's often ignored or forgotten, it's pretty much at your finger tips.
What is it? It's to tap into your existing skills and strengths.
We've spoken to thousands of people who have had WLS and one common theme that we see is that, even though they've been struggling in the area of health, our clients generally have an area of their life that they're all over. Maybe it's their social life, maybe it's their business or career or perhaps it's their hobbies. One of the simplest solutions to long-term success after WLS is is to apply the strengths and skills that you're already using in another area of your life to the area of health as well.
For example, perhaps someone is achieving great results in their business or career. They regularly set yearly and quarterly goals, they plan, they organise and they execute. When we then ask them how often they set goals and plan for their health - they often reply that they don't. All they need to do is apply their goal setting and planning skills to their health and then they can enjoy similar results in this area too.
Perhaps someone is really creative - they draw, design or make things regularly with their talents. It will really help to start using these strengths and to be creative in the area of their health too. For example, they can put their drawing or design skills to work and create a vision board to inspire them to take action. If they don't enjoy the gym then perhaps they can get creative about ways to stay active outside of the gym. If they're lacking in time then they can get creative about how they find time for their health.
Perhaps someone has great social skills. They interact with people all the time and are energised by this. Again they can use this to their advantage. They can organise a regular walking group where they get to hang out as they get fit. They can also find some accountability buddies to keep them in check.
Perhaps someone is really good at looking after everyone around them. They are constantly driving their kids to activities and appointments. All they need to do is add themselves to the list of people that they look after. Perhaps then the activity becomes a joint activity where they join in, help coach or where they do their own thing at the same time. For example, if the kids are doing a sport then they can walk around the side lines...
So what are some strengths and skills that you already use in your life that you can apply to the area of your health? Take a few minutes to work this out and then list 5 of them on a piece of paper.
If you're struggling to identify your strengths then think about what your closest friends would say your strengths are? If you're not sure, ask them!
Creating change in the area of health and lifestyle is not always easy but you actually already have all you need within you. Believe in yourself and start using your existing strengths and skills to master this area once and for all!
