Complimentary Patient Support Workshop For Your Clinic
As you probably know, many patients struggle to make the necessary changes to support their surgery. There are also many patients who find it difficult to adjust to the other challenges that accompany their surgery, including dealing with excess skin, ongoing self-esteem issues, breaking unhealthy habits and relationship challenges. Life after bariatric surgery can also be lonely and secretive for some patients, where there may not be much or any understanding or empathy at home around the new post-surgical lifestyle and challenges.
A great way to help these patients is to provide a group support workshop. This gives patients the opportunity to have face-to-face connection with, and support from other people going through the same challenges and education and coaching around strategies to overcome these challenges. It also allows you to stand out in terms of your patient support.
We're offering to run a complimentary 2-hour patient support workshop for you at your clinic for a group of your patients. The workshop is based on content from our leading bariatric support book 'Get Back On Track After Your Weight Loss Surgery' .
From our experience of running many, many face-to-face bariatric patient workshops over the last decade, one of the highlights of group sessions for many patients is simply the opportunity to interact and connect with others in a structured and facilitated format. Face-to-face workshops allow you to delve much deeper into the common challenges that patients face, to share tools for overcoming these challenges and to get perspectives from patients who have found solutions that work for them. This all takes place in a space that is away from the patient’s usual environment, so they can simply focus on themselves and the experience of the session.
Providing these support opportunities is a great way for a clinic to show that it truly cares about the patient, add massive value, and to enhance the whole post-surgical experience.
Although offering group workshops will clearly help your patients, and assist you to stand out in terms of your patient care, providing workshops however can be time-consuming and labour-intensive. Developing the content, learning the presentation, organising and printing handouts, taking bookings, sending reminders, dealing with technology, and then delivering weekend or evening sessions and gathering feedback so that you can continue to improve the support - it all takes time, effort and focus, and you and your colleagues probably have enough to do running a busy bariatric practice.
Most clinics that we speak to aren’t providing group support workshops, because they’re understandably busy enough already. Others may be offering one or two workshops each year, wishing they could do more but unable to due to their workload and commitments.
We are therefore offering to run a complimentary 2-hour patient support workshop for you for a group of your patients at your clinic. The workshop is based on the content of our leading bariatric support book 'Get Back On Track After Your Weight Loss Surgery' .
The reason that we're waiving our usual speaking fee, is that we know that a certain number of your patients will want to access further support and may want our book or one of our support program options when they experience our workshop. This is in fact one of the core ways in which we promote our support services to bariatric patients and your patients will receive a special discount on our book and our 'Get Back On Track' online program at the workshop.
We will not, however, pressure your patients into becoming clients, because we let the value of our complimentary work that we provide to them speak for itself. Instead of trying to convince your patients of all the benefits of our book and joining our support programs, we would rather just demonstrate that we can really help them by actually helping them, with our compliments.
In terms of how it works, we will set aside some time for our program founders to have a conversation with you or your practice manager to find out a bit more about your practice and the most suitable time and venue to run the support workshop. After that, we will then deliver a complimentary group workshop ('Get Back On Track After Your Weight Loss Surgery') for a group of your patients at your clinic.
"In a 2018 survey of patients enrolled on The Fresh Start Program at Dr Ken Loi's clinic at St George Private Hospital, the clinic received 107 questionnaire responses from patients who completed face-to-face workshops from October 2017 until November 2018. 100% of patients participating in the workshops indicated that they would ârecommend the support sessions to another bariatric patientâ and the average rating for the session being âinformative, enjoyable and valuableâ was 97.9%. "
The workshop content will be based on the content of our leading bariatric surgery support book 'Get Back On Track After Your Weight Loss Surgery'.
The workshop is designed to motivate and inspire patients to create a new healthier future and it will cover:
We will organise the logistics, take bookings, deliver the content, facilitate patient interactions and gather patient feedback for you. We will also give your patients a special discount if they decide that they would like to access our book or one of our support program options.
If you’re interested in our complimentary patient support workshop, the first step in the process is to complete a short form that gives us some basic information about your clinic.
Then we will schedule a time with you or your practice manager to plan your patient support workshop for you.
In order to invest our time and energy into providing you with a complimentary patient support workshop, you will need to meet some specific and reasonable criteria:
We only work with established clinics who are based in Australia.
You have access to a suitable conference room or waiting room for the workshop.
Ideally this should be able to hold at least 15 people comfortably. We do not need any access to AV equipment, as we provide handouts to keep it simple.
You are able to promote the workshop to your patients via email and/or a facebook group.
Although we will give you a poster and flyer to promote the workshop in your clinic, our experience has shown that email and facebook are the best ways to let patients know about a workshop. We will provide a sample promotional email and/or facebook post for you to use and will set up a webpage with all the details. This page will also allow your patients to book themselves in for the session.
As long as you’re an established Australian bariatric clinic, you have a suitable room and are able to let your patients know about the workshop via email/facebook then we would be delighted to help you, with our compliments.
Please note that we are only able to assist a limited number of clinics with this complimentary workshop, so please do get in touch if you would like to book one of these limited sessions.
Register below and we can get started.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we look forward to speaking with you in the near future.
Alex Shirley and Amber Kay (Co-founders of The Fresh Start Program)
"We know that the journey doesnât end when you leave the hospital ward, and the road for each patient is different. The best outcomes are achieved by clinics that integrate their medical expertise with psychology, dietetics, and exercise physiology, tailored to the individual needs of patients. The Fresh Start Program enhances patient support by providing an individual space for patients to build on the advice and guidance they have received, while reinforcing the advice of other experts. I believe this sort of comprehensive, unified and ongoing approach to patient support is best practice now, and should become standard practice for bariatric patients in future."
