Supporting Bariatric Patients With Educational Webinars

Webinar technology allows your clinic to further support patients in a simple, cost-effective and convenient manner ...

COVID Has Dramatically Increased Webinar Uptake

The shift towards using webinars as a means to communicate with groups has been increasing over the years however COVID has significantly accelerated that uptake.

The idea of a Zoom meeting is now common-place in the work-place, however this is also a tool that you can use to stay in touch with and support large numbers of struggling patients. It's a tool that's both convenient for your patients and cost effective for your clinic.

The Benefits Of Group Webinars

Webinars allow you to provide very accessible support to multiple patients, without presenting any travel, social-distancing or sanitisation challenges. Patients are becoming more and more familiar with this technology and it allows them to access support no matter where they live, or how busy they are, from the comfort of their own homes.

Using a webinar-based support meeting system allows your clinic to:

  • easily deliver educational resources and content on popular topics;
  • interact and answer patient questions in a secure, positive environment;
  • facilitate patient interaction and sharing of experiences with fellow patients;
  • coach and support multiple patients in one session; and
  • provide recordings of the sessions to registered attendees who can't make it to the session.

This provides your patients with a very convenient (and cost-effective) way to get much-needed support from your team, and helps you to have even more peace-of-mind that your patients are being looked after.

Best Webinar Options For You

There are a number of great technology options with which you can run these sessions. AnyMeeting offers affordable basic options. For more reliability and functionality, we would highly recommend Zoom or GoToWebinar.

In terms of when to run your webinars, you can explore with your patients what times and days best suit them, however from our experience, weekday evenings at 7.30pm/8.00pm for one hour seem to suit the most people for shorter support sessions, with weekend mornings working well for longer sessions (around 2 hours).

Popular Bariatric Topics

From our experience of running Bariatric Patient Support Webinars for over 10 years, the most popular topics for patients include:

  • Dealing With Emotional Eating;
  • Stress Management;
  • Staying Motivated;
  • Making Oneself A Priority; and
  • Improving Self Esteem.

Tips For Running Your Webinars

Here are a few key points for running webinars so that you can make the most of the sessions:

  • clearly explain the ground rules at the beginning of the session e.g. the need for confidentiality and supportive comments;
  • keep the sessions short (one hour is perfect for a weekday evening and two hours works well for weekend sessions);
  • focus on one topic per meeting e.g. emotional eating, or setting goals, or staying on track;
  • allow time for questions, either during the session or at the end, as this is an important time to connect with patients; and
  • use a trained facilitator to run the sessions to ensure that they are smooth and professional.

Lead The Way In The Bariatric Surgery Field

Using webinars to engage, support and educate your patients is a highly cost-effective and simple way to provide comprehensive support to multiple patients, especially those who may be reluctant or unable to attend face-to-face appointments. In an increasingly competitive field, using this technology as part of your communication and support strategy with patients will help you to lead the way in your field.

Complimentary Webinar

Would you like a Complimentary Patient Support Webinar for your patients?

We're offering this because we know that a certain number of clinics that we do this for will want us to assist them with the delivery of their support programs, however there is no expectation that this will be the outcome.

We only offer this however to established Bariatric Clinics in Australia or New Zealand, who appreciate the need to give patients assistance to create a healthy lifestyle, to support their surgery.
